FluX III: June 17-21, 2015

FluX III
directed by Molly Barth (flute) and Kim Pineda (Baroque flute), will take place June 17-21, 2015, on the beautiful University of Oregon campus.

Application Deadline: May 15. AUDITORS may still apply until June 5.

For 2015 FluX is open to both participants and auditors. Costs for participants and auditors are found on the Application and Housing tab.

FluX III is limited to sixteen (16) participants, and as many auditors as space allows.

We are the Flute Extremes (FluX)

Welcome to FluX, where the worlds of Baroque and modern flutes, flute playing, and flute music come together.

The inaugural Flute Extremes (FluX) Workshop takes place from Friday, August 16 through Tuesday, August 20, 2013, on the campus of the University of Oregon.

The FluX is open to both modern and Baroque flute players, and to those who play both. Flutists of all ages are invited to attend, provided the repertoire listings are compatible with their playing level. Repertoire lists for the performance expectations for Baroque and modern flutes are given below. 

The FluX workshop will focus on music from the 18th-, 20th-, and 21st-centuries. Baroque flutists will work on the traditional repertoire for the instrument as well as explore its ever-expanding repertoire of modern music.  Modern players will focus on the current repertoire for their instrument as well as discover the parallel performance practices in Baroque music. 

FluX offers flute instruction by day, including master classes and special topics, and recitals and performance practice clinics by night. There are two faculty recitals and two participant recitals, all open to the public. Participants also have time to meet in smaller groups on their own to work on various types of ensembles. Enrollment is limited to 16 flute players, and June 1 is the deadline to submit a CD, DVD, or a link to YouTube or other video site or sound file, consisting of one piece of your choice. Two if you will be playing both Baroque and modern flutes.

FluX gives you the chance to work hard under close supervision. What to expect at the workshop:

·   The instructors will push you out of your comfort zone to improve your playing

·   Expand your knowledge of Baroque and contemporary music and interpretation

·   Integrate new knowledge by playing in master classes and in the class recitals

·   Gain confidence in a non-competitive environment

·   Introduction to the fundamentals of Baroque improvisation

·   Removing the fear factor of extended techniques

·   Have fun in the process
